Eurovision Song Contest is like a big party in Europe. There are all sorts of music and performances. I love it, because it’s 100% live, including the orchestra, so everyone gives it their all.
This year there were again lots of pretty boys and gals, some ballads, a few rock, some boppy tunes, and a singing turkey. While there’s always been some politics in the votings, there’s now an obvious skew towards the Soviet Republics, which is a shame, because I enjoy Eurovision for its melting pot of creativity. I’m an avid fan (as a few found out first hand) of Eurovision, the song contest for Europe. It’s an annual gathering of culture and creativity, and there’s at least a few gems every year. This year almost turned out to be a farce, but Serbia with Molitva (Prayer) managed to salvage the contest’s credibility for another year.
Highlight:
“Voda (Water)” by Elitsa & Stoyan for Bulgaria: the energy of water, wild and powerful. I can’t really describe it, it’s simply a spiritual experience. And seeing them in an interview, they truly are divine people.
Honourable mentions:
“On Top of the World” by Edsilia for Netherlands: I have much respect for Netherlands, and Edsilia is such a lovely person. She also happens to have a physique close to what I like
“Let’s Save the World” by Anonymous for Andorra: Um… I just find it catchy!
